A cleave in an optical fiber is a deliberate, controlled break, intended to create a perfectly flat endface, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the fiber.
A good cleave is required for a successful low loss splice of an optical fiber, often it is the case that fibers spliced by identical methods tend to have different losses, this difference can often be attributed to the quality of their initial cleaves.


Instructions fiber cleaver:

3,Operating Method


1 Open the fixture cover and the large plate, push the slider with blade to the front side.


2 Use the stripper to strip the fiber coating, leave 30-40mm as the length of bare fiber, grab the fiber with cotton paper soaked by 99% alcohol, then clean it up. Do not use the same cotton paper for second times. (Note: Please use the alcohol of purity over 99%)


3 After visual measure the edge of the fiber coating is aimed to the appropriate scale of the stripper (10-16cm), puts the fiber into the optical fiber guide groove by left hand, and make sure that the bare fiber is placed straightly on the rubber pad.


4 Close the fixture cover, push the slider with blade to strip the lower surface of  the fiber and move to the other side, the fiber stripped.


5 Hold the stripper by left hand, open the large cover by right hand.


6 Pinch the fiber by left hand while open the fixture cover, remove the stripped fiber carefully, Note: The clean section of the fiber should not be touched.

7, Troubleshooting, the likely causes of cutting bad are:


1), fiber is not straight on the fiber-optic pressure pad;

2), the height of the blade is too high;

3), the blade and pads have dust and other foreign objects.




1 Daily cleaning, please use the cotton stick with 99% alcohol to clean the rubber surface of the fiber pressure pads and the blade frequently, especially when the cutting effect is not good, it must be cleaned in time, as well as the fiber guide groove;


2 The method of adjusting the edge of the blade, after cutting many times, the cutting edge is consumed, the phenomenon of cutting and unable to cut off will appear. At this time, the position of the blade must be adjusted:

A , Loosen the blade locking screw by wrench(without removing);

B, Stick the blade with cotton stick, rotate the blade, and turn the blade to the next new edge.;

C, Tighten the blade locking screw by wrench, the locking must be confirmed;

D, Try to cut the fiber 1-2 times, check the end surface of fiber cutting through the fusion splicer, if the end surface is bad, please adjust the height of the blade.



3, The blade height adjustment


A, Push the slider to the position when the cutting is completed.

B, Twist the height adjustment screw to the desired direction as required and lock the height locking screw, clockwise is to increase, counterclockwise is to reduce.

4, Easy problems and adjustment methods:


A. Unable to cut the fiber off, bump phenomenon, oblique angle and so on;This problem occurs when the cleaver fully adjusted by the above method, the blade might be too low, the height of blade needs to be adjusted higher.


B. Optical fiber cracks, optical fiber end face shadow, fiber angle is too big;May be the blade is too high, follow the method above to adjust the height lower.


C. When the blade is low and the blade is high, there is a large angle; This is mainly caused by the fiber optical cracks. Observe whether there is any shadow near the end surface of the optical fiber. It may be that the surface of the crack happens occasionally, which is not aligned with the microscope direction.


5. The recycling of the blade:

The blade is regular circle. Theoretically, any point on the circle can be cutmore than 1000 times. Therefore, the region between 1 and 16 can also select several points for cutting operation. After all the position of the blade 1-16 used, referring to “The blade height adjustment”, adjust the blade height from 1-16, there may be repeated using.


6. The replacement of the blade

A, Loosen the blade locking screw and remove the locking screws and pads;

B, Open the large plate, grip the blade on both sides carefully with tweezers, remove the blade gently, then put away;

C, Position slightly higher than the position of the blade shaft, so that the bladehole falls onto the shaft, and the cotton stick is used to resist the blade;

D, Place the pads on the corresponding position of the blade, screw up and tighten the locking screw.
